Enshrouded

Thirty-seven. That's how many new enemies just got dropped into Enshrouded with its full 1.0 launch, and if you're jumping in today, that number alone should tell you this isn't the same game your friends were talking about two years ago.

What exactly launched today?

Enshrouded's full 1.0 version released on October 15, 2026, for PC via Steam and PlayStation 5, after spending over two years in Early Access. If you're on Xbox Series X|S, you'll need to wait a bit longer — Keen Games has that version planned for Spring 2027. The update brings the complete Embervale world map, a new biome, dozens of fresh enemies, and a level cap bump from the previous ceiling up to 50. It also rounds off the current storyline, though the developers have said they're planning free and paid content for years to come, so this isn't a goodbye — it's a foundation.

Do I need to worry about my old skill points?

Yes, and this is the first thing you should deal with before you do anything else. The skill tree has been completely reset for 1.0, with new skills added and existing nodes moved around the board. That means however you had things allocated before doesn't carry over cleanly, and Keen Games themselves put it bluntly:

"Don't step out of your base without investing your points, or you're gonna have a bad time."

Translate that for yourself: open your skill menu the moment you load in, spend what you've got, and only then head out the door. Wandering into the new biomes half-built is asking for trouble against enemies that were clearly designed with the reworked tree in mind.

What's actually new to explore?

The headline addition is Cinder's Cradle, a biome built around floating islands in the sky and genuinely vertical exploration — a notable departure from the more horizontal zones Embervale was known for before. Alongside it, the update adds new Hollow Halls (the game's dungeon-style structures) for players chasing better gear and tougher fights. Here's a quick rundown of what's different:

  • New biome: Cinder's Cradle, with sky islands and vertical traversal
  • New enemies: 37 added across the updated world
  • Level cap: raised to 50
  • New dungeons: additional Hollow Halls
  • Voice acting: full English, Chinese, and German dialogue

If you're coming back after time away, don't expect to recognize every corner of the map. The full voice acting in particular changes how the game feels moment to moment — characters that used to communicate through text now actually talk to you, which goes a long way toward making Embervale feel inhabited rather than just decorated.

Can I build more than just a house now?

Much more, and this is where 1.0 stops being just a bigger survival game and starts being something closer to a toolkit. The new Sparkworks system lets you build interactive bases, full dungeons, and entire adventures using a built-in logic system, and then share what you've made with the community. On top of that, the core voxel building that Enshrouded was already known for remains intact — you can still carve a home directly into a mountainside, restore a crumbling ruin, or raise a settlement from scratch, block by block. Here's how I'd think about the two systems:

SystemWhat it's for
Voxel buildingShaping terrain and structures — your personal base, aesthetic builds
SparkworksInteractive logic-based creations — puzzles, dungeons, shareable adventures

If you've got a friend group that likes designing things as much as fighting things, Sparkworks is worth carving out dedicated time for, separate from the main story grind.

How much does it cost, and is it a good time to buy?

The game is priced at €39.99 / $39.99 USD, with a 10% launch discount running for the first 14 days on both Steam and PlayStation 5. Given that this discount window is short, if you've been sitting on the fence through Early Access, now is the cheapest this version of the game is likely to be for a while.

What should my very first hour look like?

Spend your skill points immediately, then ease into the new content rather than sprinting for Cinder's Cradle on day one. Save often — the advice from the game's own guide materials is consistent on this point, since a reworked skill tree and 37 new enemies mean old assumptions about difficulty don't fully hold anymore. Get comfortable with your reallocated build first, poke around the familiar parts of Embervale to confirm what's changed, and only then head toward the sky islands once you're confident your character can actually survive what's waiting up there.
