Community guidelines

Tier is a community of video game lovers. To keep it welcoming, safe and useful, we ask everyone to follow these rules. We explain the "why" behind each rule — we believe in transparency, not opaque decisions.

Effective 2026-05-17 DSA · Apple · Google compliant 13+
Tier is for people aged 13 and over. In some EU countries the minimum age may be 16 depending on local law.

1. Respect others

Criticize games, not people. Strictly forbidden: slurs, harassment (targeted or pile-on), doxing (revealing someone's identity, address, workplace), threats, hate speech based on sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability or age.

Why: disagreeing about a game never justifies attacking the person who defends it. This is also required by the DSA (art. 14) and the Apple and Google store policies.

2. Prohibited content

Removed without notice:

  • Illegal content (glorification of terrorism, child sexual abuse, sale of banned goods).
  • Credible threats, incitement to violence, hatred, suicide or self-harm.
  • Gratuitous violence or gore with no editorial purpose.
  • Dangerous misleading content (fake health alerts, coordinated disinformation).

If you see someone in distress, contact local emergency services. Belgium: 0800 32 123 (Centre de Prévention du Suicide). US: dial or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).

3. Protecting minors

Tier is not for anyone under 13 (or under 16 depending on jurisdiction). No sexual or suggestive content is allowed on the platform, whatever your age — the community includes teenagers.

Grooming (any attempt to contact a minor for sexual or manipulative purposes) results in an immediate permanent ban and a report to the competent authorities.

Parents and guardians: if you believe a minor is at risk on Tier, email contact@yourtier.com with "MINOR AT RISK" in the subject — priority handling.

4. Intellectual property

Don't post content you don't have the rights to: pirated artwork, screenshots of NDA builds, pre-release leaks, scans of official guides, links to ROMs or emulators of protected games, cracks.

Screenshots and short excerpts used to illustrate a review are covered by fair quotation as long as they serve the point. When in doubt, credit the source and keep it reasonable.

5. Spoilers

For any game released less than 6 months ago, hide major story beats (endings, twists, hidden characters) behind a clear "Spoiler" warning at the start of your review. If the app provides a masked screen for spoilers, use it.

In review titles and public comments, stay vague — nobody should get spoiled just by scrolling their feed.

6. No spam, no scams

Forbidden: repeated promotional links, follower-buying, automated accounts, pyramid schemes, "giveaways" that require payment, fake Steam keys, phishing.

If you represent a studio or publisher, state it clearly in your bio. Moderate self-promotion is fine, spam isn't.

7. No rating manipulation

Forbidden:

  • Multiple accounts (sockpuppets) to inflate your own ratings or tank someone else's.
  • Organized review bombing (coordinated campaigns to ruin a game's score for reasons unrelated to the game).
  • Asking your audience to rate without having played.
  • Vote trading ("10/10 me and I'll 10/10 you").

Why: the community score is only valuable if it reflects honest opinions from real players.

8. Consequences if you break the rules

Our moderation decisions follow a proportionate ladder (backed by the tier.ban model in our backend):

  1. Warning — explanatory message; the content may stay up.
  2. Content removal (flag) — removed, with the reason notified.
  3. Temporary ban (1 to 30 days depending on severity).
  4. Permanent ban for serious violations (illegal content, grooming, credible threats) or repeated offences.

Ban evasion (creating a new account during or after a ban) is itself a serious violation and results in a permanent ban of the new account.

9. How to report content

From the mobile app:

  • On a comment: long-press → "Report".
  • On a review, list or profile: "⋯ → Report" menu.

Pick a reason (harassment, spam, sexual content, etc.) and add a description if useful. Reports are stored as tier.moderation.report records and reviewed by our team.

Limit: 20 reports per hour per user to prevent abuse. Duplicate reports on the same content are merged. To protect your privacy (DSA art. 24), we never disclose to the reported person who reported them.

10. Right to appeal

You have the right to challenge any moderation decision that affects you (DSA art. 20).

To appeal:

  • Email contact@yourtier.com with "MODERATION APPEAL" in the subject.
  • Include the content ID from the notification and explain why you're challenging the decision.
  • We reply within 14 days max. A human — not a bot — re-reviews the case.

If your appeal succeeds, the content is restored and any related sanction is lifted.

11. Contact us

For any question about these rules, an urgent report or an appeal: contact@yourtier.com.

We read every email. Usual response time: 2 to 5 business days (14 days max for formal appeals).
