The main character Abe is almost completely helpless: he cannot use weapons and is usually instantly killed by his brutal enemies if he confronts them directly. For this reason, most of the game involves careful exploration, timed movement, sneaking, and outsmarting the foes through various means: throwing stones to confuse them, luring them into traps, etc. Abe can run, jump, climb, tiptoe, crouch, and roll; in most areas these actions are essential to his survival. A few stages involve Abe riding a large animal known as Elum. Abe's only special power is chanting, which he can use to stun certain enemies for a while or possess them. When Abe possess an enemy he gains his abilities: for example, possessing the body or a ferocious Slig allows the player to shoot from his machine gun, communicate with other creatures of his kind, and even commit suicide, clearing the way for Abe. 85 /100 11 Tekken 3 Tekken 3 1997 · 553 notes 84 /100 12 The Curse of Monkey Island The Curse of Monkey Island 1997 · 320 notes 84 /100 13 Riven: The Sequel to Myst Riven: The Sequel to Myst 1997 · 89 notes 83 /100 14 Age of Empires Age of Empires 1997 · 675 notes 83 /100 15 Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror 1997 · 163 notes 83 /100 16 Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back 1997 · 527 notes 83 /100 17 Final Fantasy Tactics Final Fantasy Tactics 1997 · 130 notes 83 /100 18 Quake II Quake II 1997 · 325 notes 83 /100 19 Blood Blood 1997 · 167 notes 82 /100 20 Worms 2 Worms 2 1997 · 95 notes 81 /100 21 Tomb Raider II Tomb Raider II 1997 · 324 notes 80 /100 22 Grand Theft Auto Grand Theft Auto 1997 · 489 notes 80 /100 23 Carmageddon Carmageddon 1997 · 185 notes 80 /100 24 Turok: Dinosaur Hunter Turok: Dinosaur Hunter 1997 · 91 notes 78 /100 25 MDK MDK 1997 · 107 notes 77 /100 26 Doom 64 Doom 64 1997 · 107 notes 76 /100 27 Fighting Force Fighting Force 1997 · 86 notes 74 /100 28 Shadow Warrior Shadow Warrior 1997 · 378 notes 73 /100 29 Yoshi's Story Yoshi's Story 1997 · 110 notes 73 /100 30 Need for Speed 2 Need for Speed 2 1997 · 137 notes 71 /100 31 Mortal Kombat 4 Mortal Kombat 4 1997 · 200 notes 69 /100 32 Broken Sword 2 - The Smoking Mirror Broken Sword 2 - The Smoking Mirror 1997 · 83 notes 69 /100 33 POSTAL POSTAL 1997 · 244 notes 56 /100 34 Dungeon Keeper Dungeon Keeper 1997 · 179 notes 10 /100
