Set during a colorful, retro-futuristic space age of interplanetary exploration, Astroneer casts the player as a lone spacefarer of the same name, journeying out from an unknown homeworld to tame the frontier of a distant solar system. Arriving aboard an interstellar craft, the Astroneer touches down on the lush starting planet of Sylva and must survive by managing oxygen, gathering resources, and reshaping the very landscape with a versatile terrain tool. Yet beyond mere survival lies a deeper mystery: scattered across each world are enigmatic alien structures known as Gateway Chambers, remnants of a long-vanished intelligence. Drawn ever deeper beneath the surface and outward to neighboring planets and moons, the Astroneer explores increasingly hostile worlds, unearths strange technology, and works to unravel the purpose behind these ancient constructs, piecing together the secret that binds the entire solar system together.
